Taiwan police arrest suspect after 12km chase involving stolen vehicle and drugs

Police in Taiwan have arrested a man following a 12.4-kilometer high-speed chase involving a stolen motorcycle and stolen license plates. During the pursuit, the suspect engaged in dangerous driving, including weaving through traffic, driving against the flow of traffic, and running red lights. Upon his arrest in the Sanxia District, a drug test revealed positive results for both amphetamines and cathinone. The suspect faces multiple charges, including theft and public danger, and has been issued 53 traffic citations totaling over 320,000 TWD in potential fines.

In a separate incident in Pingzhen, Taoyuan, police intercepted a 45-year-old man riding an unstable motorcycle. A drug screening confirmed the presence of amphetamines. Authorities noted that since the beginning of 2026, the Pingzhen Police Department has identified 129 cases of drug-impaired driving, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward such offenses to ensure road safety.
