Taiwan regional authorities implement traffic safety initiatives
Regional authorities in Taiwan are implementing various traffic safety initiatives. In Matsu, the Lienchiang Motor Vehicle Office is participating in the 2026 Traffic Safety Month. The campaign targets tourists, local residents, and drivers to improve awareness of road safety, specifically addressing the unique challenges of Matsu's steep terrain and diverse road users.
In New Taipei City, the government reported significant improvements following a motorcycle safety campaign held between July and August. Data indicates a 19.1% decrease in motorcycle accidents and a 31.6% reduction in fatalities compared to the same period last year. Beyond motorcycle safety, the city is also conducting a comprehensive review of pedestrian environments, including digital mapping of sidewalk conditions and improving school commuting routes to enhance pedestrian safety.
