Taiwan Stock Exchange to start 9 am zero‑share trades, delays hour extension

The Taiwan Stock Exchange plans to allow zero‑share (odd‑lot) trading to open at 9:00 a.m., synchronising the first match with the main market opening that previously occurred at 9:10 a.m. The change is slated for implementation by the end of the year. In addition, the exchange intends to shorten the order‑matching interval from the current five seconds to one second, with the faster cycle expected to be live around July next year.

The Financial Supervisory Commission said a proposal to extend daily trading hours to 15:30 is a major systemic reform that requires broad social consensus. With no agreement reached, the extension has been put on hold and no timetable has been set. The regulator also noted a separate plan to reduce the price‑step for stocks priced above NT$1,000 from NT$5 to NT$1, also targeting a July rollout.
