Taiwan updates anti-fraud strategy as shopping scams rise
Taiwan's government is shifting its anti-fraud focus as criminal tactics evolve. While traditional investment scams have decreased significantly, the Executive Yuan reports a sharp rise in online shopping and single-page website scams. Cases involving these shopping-related frauds have increased by 56%, with financial losses rising by 733%. In response, the government is drafting the “New Generation Anti-Fraud Strategy Action Plan 3.0” to address these digital consumer safety risks.
Additionally, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) reported that restrictions placed on the social media platform Xiaohongshu have led to a measurable decline in related fraudulent activities. According to MAC Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh, since the platform's access was restricted in December 2025 due to its failure to appoint a local legal representative, Xiaohongshu-related fraud cases dropped by 72% and financial losses decreased by 66% compared to the preceding eight-month period. The MAC emphasized that these measures are based on anti-fraud regulations and will continue if the platform fails to meet judicial requirements.
