Taiwan weather: Northeast monsoon brings rain and cooling

The strengthening northeast monsoon is bringing rain and cooler temperatures to various parts of Taiwan. According to the Central Weather Administration, Yilan and Hualien are expected to experience local showers and a possibility of heavy rain. Other areas, including northern Taoyuan, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula, may also see localized short showers.

High winds and long waves are expected along the coasts of Hualien, Taitung (including Lanyu and Green Island), and the Hengchun Peninsula. In Taitung's Chenggong area, wave heights have already reached 1.6 meters. Residents are advised to exercise caution during seaside activities.

Temperatures are projected to drop significantly starting November 9, as the monsoon intensifies. Northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will experience cooler weather, with daytime lows potentially reaching between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. The most significant temperature drop is expected during the early morning hours of next Tuesday and Wednesday.
