Taiwanese cities promote Mid-Autumn gift boxes to support workers with disabilities

Local governments in Taiwan are launching initiatives to support the employment of people with disabilities through the sale of Mid-Autumn Festival gift boxes produced by sheltered workshops.

In Kaohsiung, the city government has expanded its procurement to 2,000 gift boxes, collaborating with the City Council and various private enterprises. The promotion features products from 23 different disability groups, including a specialized composite gift box that combines items from six different organizations. To modernize the outreach, the city is utilizing AI technology and QR codes to allow consumers to learn about the artisans' stories through interactive digital experiences.

Similarly, in Tainan, the Labor Bureau is hosting marketing events for seven sheltered workshops. These workshops provide stable employment for 73 individuals with disabilities. The product range includes baked goods, specialty sauces, and vegan options. Local businesses and unions have also participated in these efforts, with some organizations providing long-term support through consistent annual procurement of these gift sets.
