Taiwan disability empowerment and vocational initiatives

Charity and government initiatives in Taiwan are focusing on economic empowerment for persons with disabilities through vocational training and seasonal commerce.

Initial efforts included the Quanlian Celebration Charity Foundation’s “Disability and Women Economic Reconstruction Support Project” in Pingtung, which provided vouchers and training in budgeting and job-readiness. Additionally, the Lude Special Education School launched a Mid-Autumn charity gift-box campaign to provide practical work experience in baking and packaging for adult learners.

This momentum expanded into broader municipal support for the Mid-Autumn Festival. In Kaohsiung, the city government increased procurement to 2,000 gift boxes from 23 different disability groups, utilizing AI and QR codes to share artisans’ stories. In Tainan, the Labor Bureau organized marketing events for seven sheltered workshops that employ 73 individuals, offering products such as baked goods and specialty sauces with support from local businesses and unions.
