Taiwanese cultural festivals held in Kaohsiung and California

Cultural celebrations marking Taiwan's National Day and indigenous heritage took place in both Taiwan and the United States.

In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the Nawnamu Baksa Siraya Art and Music Festival was held in the Neimen District. The event focused on Siraya culture and local history, featuring historical exhibitions, cultural performances, and a market. The festival highlighted the historical missionary work of James Laidlaw Maxwell and the photographic records of John Thomson, which documented the lives of indigenous groups in the region during the late 19th century.

In Monterey Park, California, the California Taiwan Benevolent Association hosted its 48th annual Double Tenth National Day flag-raising ceremony and carnival. The event drew diverse community members and local officials. U.S. Representative Judy Chu attended, discussing her efforts regarding the US-Taiwan Double Taxation Relief Act and advocating for Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations like the WTO. The celebration included a parade with 30 community groups and a new photography and short video competition designed to engage younger generations with Taiwanese culture.
