Taiwanese national arrested for role in 6.2 million yen fraud scam

A Taiwanese national, Seisetsu Cho, has been arrested at Narita Airport for allegedly acting as a cash collector in a ‘fake police’ scam. The 40-year-old suspect, who entered Japan on a short-term visa, is accused of conspiring with others to defraud a man in his 70s in Fukuoka Prefecture of 6.2 million yen. The victim was reportedly told by individuals impersonating police officers and postal workers that his funds required investigation due to violations of the Postal Act.

Cho reportedly received the cash from a man in his 60s, who had already been arrested and indicted in Fukuoka. While Cho has reserved his right to deny or admit the charges, he stated that he had performed ‘package receiving jobs’ four to five times. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating further potential crimes.
