Fraud prevention in Taiwan
Overview
Police in Taiwan have intervened in two distinct online deception attempts. In Changhua, officers prevented a 57-year-old woman from transferring 20,000 TWD to an individual posing as a Chinese celebrity in a ‘romance scam’.
In a separate incident, authorities thwarted a scheme on Douyin where scammers used fraudulent government subsidy claims to solicit personal and financial information from a man. In both cases, police intervention prevented financial loss or the compromise of sensitive data.
