Taiwanese prosecutors intensify crackdown on election fraud
Prosecutors in Taiwan are intensifying efforts to prevent election-related crimes ahead of the upcoming local elections. The Keelung District Prosecutors Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Chen Chia-hsiu, has held symposiums with police departments in Ruifang and Jinshan, as well as various investigation stations, to analyze electoral risks and coordinate anti-bribery measures.
Key areas of focus include traditional vote-buying through cash, gifts, and meals, as well as more complex issues such as election violence, illegal gambling, ghost voters, and interference from foreign forces. Authorities are also targeting the spread of misinformation.
Similarly, the Shilin District Prosecutors Office has collaborated with the Beitou Police Department to strengthen cooperation. Prosecutors emphasized the importance of preserving evidence—such as chat logs, bank transfers, and photos—when reporting suspicious activities. A dedicated reporting hotline (0800-024-099, option 4) has been established, with rewards of up to 20 million TWD available for informants, while maintaining strict confidentiality.
