Taiwanese prosecutors launch anti-bribery and election security initiatives

Prosecutors and police in Taiwan are intensifying efforts to prevent bribery, violence, and foreign interference ahead of upcoming local elections.

In Yilan, the District Prosecutors Office conducted outreach in Luodong to educate local officials and residents on identifying illegal election practices. Officials warned against the use of cash, gifts, and banquets to secure votes, as well as the spread of disinformation. Authorities noted that whistleblowers reporting cases involving foreign interference could receive rewards of up to NT$20 million.

In Keelung, the District Prosecutors Office collaborated with the Keelung City Police Department to review security and investigative measures. The joint inspection focused on monitoring high-risk areas for activities such as vote-buying, illegal residency changes, election gambling, and political violence. Law enforcement emphasized a strategy of precise intelligence gathering and rapid evidence collection to ensure a fair and neutral electoral environment.
