Taiwo Hassan, veteran Nollywood actor Ogogo, dies at 66

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, widely known by his stage name Ogogo, has died at the age of 66. His passing was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a battle with stage-four cancer.

Hassan, a prominent figure in the Yoruba-language film industry with a career spanning over four decades, was born in Ilaro, Ogun State. Before his acting success, he worked as an automobile mechanic and for the Lagos State Water Corporation. His filmography includes notable works such as ‘Aníkúlápó’.

In the days leading up to his death, his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, had made public appeals for medical assistance, noting that doctors could no longer administer chemotherapy. The family also addressed reports of financial exploitation, with Kira Taiwo accusing some individuals of attempting to profit from the actor's illness by demanding large sums of money.

Burial arrangements indicate that Hassan will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State. The ceremony includes a lying-in-state and burial prayers at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground.
