Taiwo Hassan, Nollywood legend known as Ogogo, dies at 66

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 following a battle with stage-four cancer. His death was confirmed by his daughter, Kira Hassan, during an emotional social media broadcast. Hassan, a prominent figure in Yoruba-language cinema, was recognized for his roles in productions such as ‘Anikulapo’ and ‘Omo Ghetto’.

Before his acting career, Hassan worked as an automobile mechanic for approximately 13 years. His passing has drawn tributes from high-ranking officials, including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and the Ogun State Government, both of whom described him as a cultural ambassador and a vital contributor to Nigeria’s creative industry.

Hassan was laid to rest on August 24, 2026, in Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites. The funeral was attended by numerous colleagues from the Nigerian film industry and local leaders, marking the end of a career that spanned over four decades.
