Taiwo Hassan, veteran Nollywood actor known as Ogogo, dies at 66

Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as ‘Ogogo’, passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with stage-four cancer. A prominent figure in Yoruba-language theatre and film, his death has prompted widespread mourning across the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Hassan was buried on August 24 in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, following Islamic rites. The funeral was attended by numerous industry colleagues, including Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, and Femi Adebayo. Tributes have highlighted his long-standing professional and personal bonds, with fellow actors Dele Odule and Yinka Quadri reflecting on decades of friendship.

The family has announced upcoming burial rites, including an eighth-day Fidau prayer scheduled for August 31, 2026, in Ilaro, and an Artists’ Day tribute to be held 40 days after his burial.

Additionally, the family has issued a disclaimer to debunk social media rumors claiming that one of Hassan's daughters, Shakirat Taiwo, had given birth shortly after his passing. His daughter, Haleemah Taiwo, urged the public to respect the family's privacy during their period of mourning.
