Taiz civilians targeted by Houthi shelling and drone attacks
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented 43 violations committed by Houthi forces in the Taiz governorate within a 24-hour period. These attacks resulted in the deaths of five civilians, including a five-year-old girl, and left 17 others injured, including women, children, and the elderly.
Reports indicate that Houthi forces launched over 180 projectiles—including mortar shells, artillery, howitzers, Katyusha rockets, tank shells, and drone attacks—at residential neighborhoods across various districts of Taiz. The shelling caused significant damage to seven homes and 12 private vehicles, while also partially damaging Al-Safwa Hospital and Al-Saeed Mosque.
In a separate incident in the Al-Dahi neighborhood, mortar fire struck civilian homes, injuring a child and penetrating a house wall to hit water tanks. Human rights sources note that these escalations are part of a broader pattern of military aggression in the besieged province that has caused numerous casualties and intensified the humanitarian crisis. The network has called on the international community and the United Nations to take urgent action to protect civilians and medical facilities, lift restrictions on movement, and ensure the safe delivery of food, water, and medicine.
