Taiz experiences intense fighting and Houthi advances
The Taiz governorate in Yemen is experiencing intense military escalation and humanitarian distress. Violent clashes have broken out across multiple fronts, including Al-Ma'afir, Jabal Habashi, and the eastern and northern fronts of the city, involving government forces and Houthi militias. Houthi forces have reportedly deployed over 100 military vehicles to the Al-Bairin area and have made significant advances in the Al-Hujariyah and Ash Shamayatayn regions.
Internal political tensions have surfaced following allegations by journalist Nayef Hassan that military commanders surrendered key sites in the Al-Hujariyah region to the Houthis without combat. Furthermore, reports suggest Houthi advances have brought them within 500 meters of the residence of Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi.
In a separate development, Yemeni military sources claim that government forces have expelled Saudi-linked military mobilizations from Al-Turba, Ash Shamayatayn, and Sam'a. Meanwhile, the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented 61 Houthi violations in Taiz within a 24-hour period, including the killing of five civilians and the destruction of numerous homes and vehicles.
