Tajikistan to Host ECO Industry Ministers Meeting and Announces Senior Government Appointments

Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, will host the fourth meeting of industry ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on 22‑23 September 2026. Invitations have been sent to all ECO member states and partner countries, and a high‑level expert working group of about 50 participants will also convene. The city will simultaneously stage several international forums and exhibitions covering food production, textiles, artificial intelligence, mining and coal, while Tajik authorities have signed cooperation documents, including a green‑minerals action plan with China and agreements with Uzbekistan on technology and innovation.

In a separate move, President Emomali Rahmon approved a slate of new senior appointments in key sectors such as banking, education, science, transport, energy, customs and pensions. Young professionals with expertise in foreign languages and modern digital technologies were named to deputy leadership roles, and new heads were placed in secondary schools and higher‑education institutions. The changes are presented as part of a broader effort to digitalise public administration, boost industrial investment and improve the quality of education in Tajikistan.
