Disney+ announces Japanese horror anthology ‘Night Tales Club’

Disney+ has unveiled ‘Night Tales Club’, a six-part supernatural mystery anthology series scheduled for exclusive release in January 2027. The series is based on the short story collection ‘Atama no Ookina Ke no Nai Koumori’ by acclaimed horror author Ichi Sawamura.

Starring Takayuki Yamada, the series follows Hojo, a wealthy entrepreneur and founder of the life sciences corporation ALAYA. Hojo operates the ‘Night Tales Club’, where he invites individuals to share evidence of supernatural anomalies—which he views as ‘bugs’ in reality—in exchange for a 20 million yen reward in gold. To claim the reward, claimants must provide truthful accounts, proof of a victim, and unique evidence.

The project features a high-profile directorial lineup, with each episode helmed by a different filmmaker: Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Takashi Shimizu, Shinzo Katayama, Yukiko Sode, Yuichiro Sakashita, and Yosuke Nakamura. Kenji Nakajima will direct the framing sequences featuring Yamada. The series is produced by Yusuke Wakabayashi and Teruhisa Yamamoto, with Sawamura adapting his own work for the screen.
