Japanese horror film and series announcements

Overview

In late 2026, several major Japanese horror projects were announced for upcoming release. Kitan Club, a capsule toy manufacturer, revealed plans for a feature-length horror film to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Directed by Ryo Fujii, the project is described as a ‘strange toy movie’ featuring monsters shaped like capsule toy containers and is slated for a 2027 release.

Concurrently, Disney+ announced ‘Night Tales Club’, a six-part supernatural mystery anthology series scheduled for January 2027. Based on the short stories of Ichi Sawamura, the series stars Takayuki Yamada and features a diverse directorial lineup including Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Takashi Shimizu. The narrative follows a wealthy entrepreneur who offers rewards to individuals who can provide evidence of supernatural anomalies.
