Takumi Minamino nears return to AS Monaco following long-term injury
AS Monaco manager Filipe Luís has provided an update on Japanese midfielder Takumi Minamino, noting that his full return to competitive action is imminent. Minamino has been sidelined for approximately eight months following a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee sustained in December.
Although Minamino was included in the squad for the recent Ligue 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain, he remained an unused substitute. Luís explained that the decision to include him in the traveling squad was intended to help the player reintegrate with the team, participate in warm-ups, and experience the match atmosphere.
The manager emphasized the need for a gradual fitness progression and expects Minamino to be ready for selection either in the coming matches or following the upcoming international break. Luís praised Minamino’s intelligence and versatility, stating he is most effective in central attacking roles, such as a number 10 or second striker.
