Talanta Stadium infrastructure projects advance in Kenya

Kenya is advancing preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations through significant infrastructure developments surrounding the Talanta Stadium in Nairobi. Kenya Railways is constructing a 14-kilometre rail link connecting Nairobi Central Station to the stadium via Nyayo Stadium. This project includes upgrading 13.3 kilometres of existing track and building a new 1.3-kilometre line between Kibera and Satellite, alongside new commuter stations at Laini Saba and Talanta Stadium.

While the stadium project is nearing completion—with Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya noting construction has reached 94 per cent—the facility has faced scrutiny regarding its “world-class” status. Critics have raised concerns over the installation of non-foldable plastic bucket seats in the lower tiers, which some argue lack the comfort and modern aesthetics expected of a multi-billion-shilling venue. Additionally, the size of the stadium's LED screens has been questioned in comparison to other regional facilities.
