This project involves upgrading 13.3 kilometres of existing track and building a new 1.3-kilometre line between Kibera and Satellite, including new commuter stations at Laini Saba and Talanta Stadium.

Despite progress, the Talanta Stadium has faced scrutiny regarding its “world-class” status. Critics have questioned the installation of non-foldable plastic bucket seats in the lower tiers, arguing they lack the comfort and modern aesthetics expected of a multi-billion-shilling venue. Additionally, the size of the stadium’s LED screens has been compared unfavorably to other regional facilities.
