Turkey implements new fire safety measures and drills
Various regional authorities in Turkey are implementing new measures and conducting drills to enhance fire safety and disaster preparedness.
Talas Municipality has launched the ‘Fire Shield Project’ on Ali Dağı. This initiative involves placing 30 first-response cabinets along the 360 Walking Trail at 500-meter intervals. These cabinets contain essential equipment such as fire extinguishers, water pumps, shovels, and sand buckets. The system allows citizens to report fires via telephone and access the equipment using a provided code to facilitate immediate intervention before professional firefighters arrive.
In Izmir, the 6th International Fire Symposium and Exhibition has commenced. Organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and professional chambers, the event focuses on fire safety technologies, inter-institutional cooperation, and the impact of the climate crisis on forest fires. Mayor Cemil Tugay emphasized the importance of prevention over suppression.
Additionally, in Bitlis, the Governor’s Office conducted a fire drill to increase awareness and test evacuation procedures. Governor Ahmet Karakaya noted that authorities are continuously inspecting hotels, schools, and factories to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
