Taliban defends protest ban as Germany approves technical mission

The Taliban government in Kabul has defended its recent ban on all forms of public protest, claiming the measure is “in absolute agreement with Islamic law” and necessary to prevent chaos. Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that citizens with grievances should instead use official services to express dissatisfaction. Human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, have condemned the decision, describing it as a step to stifle dissent and a “shocking” attack on human rights.

In a separate development regarding diplomatic relations, the German government has approved the arrival of a Taliban technical delegation to the country. The mission aims to provide technical support to Afghan diplomatic missions in Germany, specifically focusing on tasks such as maintaining passport printing equipment. This move is intended to facilitate consular services for approximately 450,000 Afghans living in Germany and to expedite the deportation process of Afghan citizens. While Germany does not officially recognize the Taliban regime, officials noted that the delegation will focus on purely technical matters and will not engage in political dialogue with German government officials.
