Tall Vessel Passage Restored at Merwedebrug Gorinchem on August 17

The restriction on high‑shipping traffic under the Merwedebrug on the A27 near Gorinchem was lifted at 20:00 on 17 August 2026, allowing tall vessels to pass again, according to Rijkswaterstaat. The limitation had been imposed while repair work was carried out on the movable section of the bridge.

Although the bridge will now accommodate high‑shipping, an adjusted operating regime will remain in force until 31 December 2027. Low‑navigation limits continue, as the under‑bridge passage for smaller vessels stays closed until the end of 2028 because of the construction of a new crossing over the Boven‑Merwede. Road freight traffic over the bridge remains prohibited owing to safety concerns about its structural integrity.
