Vélez Sarsfield defeats Talleres 3-1 in Argentine Clausura match

Vélez Sarsfield beat Talleres 3–1 on July 30‑31, 2026, at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Córdoba during the second round of the Torneo Clausura. Ronaldo Martínez opened the scoring for the home side in the 26th minute, but Vélez equalised before halftime through Rodrigo Aliendro. In the second half Thiago Silvero and Diego Valdés (reported as Claudio Baeza in some sources) added the decisive goals.

The victory gave Vélez a perfect six points, keeping them atop Zone A, while Talleres remain at the bottom of the table alongside Central Córdoba, Estudiantes and Boca. Coach Jorge Sampaoli, in his first match in front of the home crowd, said his side needs to improve defensively and work on tactical cohesion after the loss. The match also featured a tribute to the Malvinas combatants before kickoff.

Vélez will host Independiente in the next round, while Talleres travel to Platense, both matches scheduled for August 3, 2026.
