Tallinn police use service weapons to apprehend woman with knife

Police in Tallinn used their service weapons to apprehend an aggressive 50-year-old woman on Müürivahe Street. The incident began after reports that the woman had thrown a stone from an apartment window, shattering a car windshield.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers entered the building and encountered the woman brandishing a knife. Despite repeated orders to drop the weapon, she continued to act aggressively and wave the knife at the officers. In response to the immediate threat, an officer discharged their service weapon toward the woman.

Officers provided first aid until emergency medical services arrived to transport her to a hospital. Her condition is reported as non-life-threatening. Rait Pikaro, operational manager of the North Prefecture, stated that officers must be prepared to use weapons to protect themselves or others when faced with immediate danger. A criminal proceeding has been initiated regarding violence against a public official, and the use of firearms will undergo further tactical analysis.
