Tallinn police knife confrontation

Overview

Police in Tallinn, Estonia, utilized service weapons to apprehend an aggressive 50-year-old woman on Müürivahe Street. The confrontation followed reports that the woman had thrown a stone from an apartment window, shattering a car windshield.

Upon entering the building, officers encountered the woman brandishing a knife. After she ignored repeated orders to drop the weapon and continued to wave it at officers, an officer discharged a service weapon toward her.

Emergency medical services transported the woman to a hospital, where her condition was reported as non-life-threatening. Rait Pikaro, operational manager of the North Prefecture, stated that officers must be prepared to use weapons to protect themselves or others when faced with immediate danger. A criminal proceeding has been initiated regarding violence against a public official, and the use of firearms will undergo tactical analysis.
