Tamar Bridge approach closure planned for Saltash drivers
National Highways has announced an overnight closure and diversion for drivers in Saltash due to maintenance on the Tamar Bridge approach. The eastbound on-slip onto the bridge will be closed from 12:30 am to 3:30 am on Friday, October 2.
Engineers will be updating rotating prism signage on the approaches to the bridge and Saltash Tunnel. This work is part of a broader technology upgrade programme intended to improve journey safety and reliability while reducing unplanned closures. As a result of these specific works, the Saltash Tunnel is scheduled to reopen earlier than usual at 12:30 am on Friday, rather than the standard 6:00 am.
A short diversion will be implemented via North Road and Carkeel. This specific overnight work is separate from the regular Monday-to-Thursday tunnel closures, which are expected to continue until the end of the year. National Highways has advised motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.
