Tamar Bridge officials to resume TAMAR Tag applications after shortage

Tamar Bridge officials have confirmed that applications for TAMAR Tags are expected to resume shortly following the arrival of new electronic toll device supplies. The shortage, which led to a temporary halt in online applications in early August, was caused by a surge in demand following a consultation on the scheme’s administration fee, combined with manufacturer delays in sourcing a key electronic component.

Chief Officer Philip Robinson stated that the high volume of applications exceeded planning, noting, “Ordinarily, we would have had the TAGs in place, but suddenly people thought, ‘This is great, I get a 50% discount,’ and we ran out of stock.” Robinson apologized to drivers who have been forced to pay full tolls during the shortage and indicated that new stock is inbound following customs release.

During a meeting of the Joint Committee of the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry, Councillor Anne Freeman questioned the impact on drivers and suggested using vehicle registration numbers to grant discounted tolls while physical tags are pending. Customers have previously been warned of potential waits of up to four weeks.
