Tamaulipas authorities identify 27 women at risk of feminicide

The Secretary of Women in Tamaulipas has identified 27 women at risk of feminicide between January and September 2026. These cases were detected through threats, physical aggression, or attempted feminicide, as recorded in the National Bank of Data and Information on Violence against Women (BANAVIM).

Marcia Benavides Villafranca, head of the agency, stated that these high-risk indicators trigger special protection protocols involving coordination with the State Prosecutor's Office and the State Guard. Benavides distinguished these preventative records from active criminal investigations, noting that the state prosecutor had previously reported approximately 20 feminicides in the region.

The BANAVIM system tracks various forms of violence, including psychological and economic abuse, to provide a broader overview of aggression against women. During the first half of the year, the agency assisted approximately 9,000 women through its offices and specialized telephone services.
