Tamaulipas authorities seize 700,000 liters of fuel in anti-theft operations
Federal forces in Tamaulipas have conducted operations in the municipalities of Reynosa, Güémez, and Altamira to combat illegal fuel theft, known as 'huachicol'. The operations resulted in the seizure of nearly 700,000 liters of gasoline and diesel.
Authorities also detained 14 individuals and confiscated four properties, dozens of tanks, fuel tankers, containers, weapons, and ammunition. Governor Américo Villarreal praised the federal government's actions, noting that Tamaulipas is the second-highest importer of fuel in Mexico and possesses critical infrastructure, including two maritime ports, 19 border crossings, and a refinery.
Investigations are ongoing, with officials indicating that further arrests, potentially including business owners, may follow as part of the continued effort to secure the region's energy supply and protect local businesses.
