Tamaulipas faces growing issue with vehicle scrap in public spaces

The state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, is facing a significant issue with accumulated vehicle scrap occupying public spaces. Due to its position as a border state with 371 kilometers of proximity to the United States and 18 international bridges, the region is highly susceptible to the influx of unusable vehicles.

While the problem was once concentrated in municipalities such as Matamoros, Río Bravo, Reynosa, and Nuevo Laredo, it has since spread across all 43 municipalities in the state. This expansion follows various vehicle regularization and nationalization programs, as well as the abandonment of old domestic and imported units. Local authorities face criticism for failing to enforce existing regulations to manage this urban clutter.
