Tamaulipas health officials urge heat‑related precautions as temperatures exceed 40 °C

The health secretary of Tamaulipas, Adriana Marcela Hernández Campos, acting on instructions from Governor Américo Villareal Anaya, announced reinforced coordination across the health sector to address risks from temperatures surpassing 40 °C. The agency reported 13 heat‑related cases in state health units – four dehydration, six heat‑stroke, two sunstroke and one fatal heat‑stroke in the municipality of El Mante.

Officials advised residents, especially children, the elderly, chronic‑ill patients and outdoor workers, to stay well hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, wear light‑colored loose clothing, use hats and sunscreen, and take regular shade breaks. Additional guidance included frequent hand‑washing, proper food handling, cooking foods thoroughly, refrigerating perishables, disinfecting fruits and vegetables, and keeping oral rehydration salts at home, which can be obtained free of charge from health centers.
