Tamaulipas officials propose bridge concession cancellation and file corruption complaints

In Tamaulipas, Mexico, state officials are addressing issues of public infrastructure management and financial accountability. Local deputy Claudio de Leija Hinojosa has proposed canceling the concession for the Puente Tampico. He argued that the toll revenue collected has already covered the construction costs many times over, suggesting the bridge should transition to public transit. De Leija Hinojosa also called for a review of existing road concessions to ensure the government can directly manage maintenance and guarantee free movement.

Separately, the State Auditor's Office (ASE) has formalized 36 criminal complaints regarding financial anomalies in the management of public resources. State Auditor Francisco Noriega Orozco stated that these complaints were sent to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in Combatting Corruption after officials and former officials failed to clarify observations made during audits. Most of the cases involve municipal governments, including heads of agencies, treasurers, and controllers. The ASE aims to present these complaints more rapidly to prevent irregularities from reaching the statute of limitations.
