Tamaulipas public administration and oversight

In Tamaulipas, Mexico, state officials are addressing matters of public administration, infrastructure management, and financial accountability.

The Tamaulipas State Congress is reviewing a proposal to maintain state government control over the Municipal Water and Sewage Commission (Comapa) in Río Bravo. Despite a request from the Río Bravo Mayor to reintegrate the commission into the local City Council, the Congress Governing Board has endorsed keeping water, drainage, and wastewater services under state administration. Supporters of the measure argue that the municipality lacks the necessary administrative and operational capacity to manage the services without risking the water supply.

Simultaneously, legislative and auditing actions are targeting infrastructure and public funds. Deputy Claudio de Leija Hinojosa has proposed canceling the concession for the Puente Tampico, suggesting that toll revenues have sufficiently covered construction costs and that the bridge should transition to public transit. Additionally, the State Auditor’s Office has filed 36 criminal complaints with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Combatting Corruption. These complaints involve financial anomalies in the management of public resources by various current and former municipal officials.
