Tamaulipas reports zero measles cases in 2026

Tamaulipas remains the only Mexican state to report zero confirmed cases of measles so far in 2026, according to Health Secretary Ricardo Gerardo Guerrero Morales. The state's status is attributed to intensive immunization campaigns and strict epidemiological surveillance.

To maintain this status, the Secretary of Health is coordinating with the Secretary of Education to strengthen vaccination efforts within schools as the new academic cycle begins. Additionally, starting in October, the state will launch intensified vaccination campaigns against influenza, COVID-19, and pneumococcus across health centers, all 12 sanitary districts, and public schools. Specific dosage targets are pending guidance from the federal government.

In other health sector developments, a new linear accelerator for cancer patients has been installed, with staff training scheduled to begin shortly and operations expected to commence by the third week of September. Furthermore, the state announced retroactive salary increases for temporary health workers earning below the minimum wage, a special bonus for 88 retirees, and the distribution of new equipment and uniforms to health personnel.
