Mexican State Guard helicopter shot dead 7-year-old American girl
A seven-year-old American girl, Aranza Aidelany, was fatally shot by gunfire originating from a Tamaulipas State Guard helicopter during a security operation in Matamoros, Mexico. The incident occurred on October 29, 2025, during an operation aimed at capturing Axel Alfredo Cárdenas Rodríguez, a member of the “Los Ciclones” criminal group associated with the Gulf Cartel.
Ballistics forensics confirmed that the projectile, a 7.62 caliber round, came from the State Guard aircraft. The victim was traveling in a pickup truck with her family when they were followed by the helicopter. The girl was struck in the head, and her mother, Claudia Edith Pardo, was also wounded in the leg during the exchange.
While the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s office noted that officers were responding to an alleged attack from the ground, the prosecutor confirmed the shot originated from the police aircraft. Four State Guard agents were on board the helicopter at the time of the incident. The agents remain on active duty as investigations continue to determine who specifically discharged the weapon.
