Tamil Nadu AIADMK faces internal dissent and defections

Party officials in Tamil Nadu reported growing discontent among AIADMK's various wings—including the Women's, MGR Youth, Youth and Women's, and Traders' wings—over limited representation and few electoral opportunities. Chief Edappadi Palaniswami convened meetings with district functionaries, heard criticism of the party's IT wing and the overall coordination of affiliated units, and received a resolution from the MGR Youth Wing thanking him for the NDA's 52‑seat victory while also condemning the rival TVK government.

Separately, three former AIADMK legislators who resigned and joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) met Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar to explain their switch. The ex‑MLAs, who supported the TVK in the May 13 floor test, are now subject to disqualification proceedings under the anti‑defection law. Their move follows a similar defection by former AIADMK lawmaker Esaki Subaya, highlighting a widening rift within the party.
