India's IMD forecasts moderate rain in Tamil Nadu's Western Ghats and higher temperatures

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a bulletin predicting moderate rainfall over the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu for the next two days, with isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. The system is driven by a low‑pressure trough extending from southern Gujarat to central Kerala, which also limits rain to other parts of the state. Authorities have warned of landslide and localized flooding risks in hilly areas and have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions against lightning.

Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry and the Karaikal region, only light rain is expected, while daytime temperatures are forecast to be 2‑3 °C above normal. The Regional Meteorological Centre notes that the weak southwest monsoon and El Niño conditions will keep rainfall below normal and push maximum temperatures to around 39 °C in some districts. The public is advised to stay hydrated, limit exposure to the afternoon heat, and monitor updates from the meteorological agencies.
