Chennai and Western Ghats districts to see moderate rain and gusty winds through July 24

The India Meteorological Department forecast moderate rainfall for the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu from July 19 until July 24, with isolated light to moderate showers expected elsewhere in the state, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal. Temperatures along the Tamil Nadu coast and in Chennai are projected to stay close to seasonal norms, while many interior districts may be 2‑3 °C above average.

Thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40‑50 km/h (up to 60 km/h gusts) are likely, especially over the hill districts and coastal waters. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into affected sea areas. The weather pattern is driven by an upper‑air cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining regions, enhancing moisture inflow to the Western Ghats.
