Tamil Nadu CM C. Joseph Vijay's Administration Grapples with School Photo Row and Fiscal, Water Resolutions

Cadres of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) entered a government school near Uthiramerur in Kanchipuram district, placed a photograph of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on a classroom wall and filmed the act. Former BJP leader K. Annamalai condemned the disruption, saying, “We believe that Chief Minister Thiru Vijay himself would not approve of ruling party members entering government schools and disrupting classes,” and urged the CM and the School Education Minister to prevent repeats.

The newly formed Tamil Nadu government retained senior IAS officer M. Sai Kumar as Chief Secretary despite his scheduled retirement in August 2026, signalling a focus on administrative continuity. It also appointed Dr. P. Senthilkumar as Additional Chief Secretary and Secretary‑I to the Chief Minister and G. Laxmi Priya as Secretary‑II, reinforcing the Chief Minister’s Office.

During the ongoing Assembly session, a resolution was moved to demand Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of Union tax devolution, highlighting a sharp rise in the state’s revenue deficit and interest burden. The Governor announced the formation of a Special Legal Committee to pursue the claim up to the Supreme Court.

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami later questioned the legitimacy of an amended Mekedatu dam resolution adopted by the Assembly, stating, “The amended resolution cannot be treated as the original government resolution,” and asserting that the AIADMK had only supported the original proposal.
