Tamil Nadu awards gold ring scheme contracts to Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers

The Tamil Nadu government has issued work orders to jewellery retailers Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers to supply one-gram gold rings under the ‘Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam’ scheme. Joyalukkas will receive 70% of the order, while Kalyan Jewellers will receive 30%.

The initial phase requires 128,499 rings for the period between June and September, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 220 crore. The state has made a total budgetary provision of Rs 755.83 crore to supply 441,667 rings over one year. The government will pay for the gold at prevailing market rates.

The welfare initiative, which was a campaign promise by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, aims to encourage childbirth in government hospitals. The scheme is scheduled to launch on September 15, the birth anniversary of CN Annadurai. Beneficiaries include children born in government hospitals from June 22, the birthday of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
