Tamil Nadu braces for heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai says an atmospheric circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal will bring heavy to very heavy rain to Tamil Nadu in the coming days. On May 24, ten districts – Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi and Namakkal – are expected to receive intense downpours, with forecasts expanding to many more districts, including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Dindigul, Theni and Madurai, over the next 48 hours.

Officials have warned residents in vulnerable and low‑lying areas to stay alert, as the rainfall could cause localized flooding and disruption. Temperatures are projected to remain near normal across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with Chennai likely to see partly cloudy skies and light to moderate evening rain. Authorities urge people, especially in hilly and water‑logging‑prone zones, to monitor updates and take necessary precautions.
