Delhi shoe factory fire kills four in Mangolpuri

A massive fire broke out at a shoe manufacturing unit in the Mangolpuri Industrial Area, Phase 1, of Delhi at approximately 9:30 pm on Friday. The blaze reportedly originated in the factory basement, where footwear is produced and stored, causing thick smoke to spread rapidly to the upper floors.

Emergency responders and the Delhi Fire Service deployed approximately 20 engines to the scene. Six individuals were rescued from the building in an unconscious state and transported to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Medical officials declared four of the victims dead upon arrival, while two others sustained serious injuries and remain under treatment.

Police have summoned the factory owner for questioning and are investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities are also interrogating contractors and workers to verify the total number of laborers present at the time of the incident. In response to recent fire tragedies in the city, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a major restructuring of the Delhi Fire Service, adding 2,345 new posts to strengthen emergency response capabilities.
