Tamil Nadu Cabinet Approves TVK Government's First Full Budget

On 16 July 2024, the Tamil Nadu TVK government, headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, convened a cabinet meeting at the state secretariat to give final approval to its first full budget for the 2026‑27 fiscal year. The approved budget will be presented to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in the first week of August.

The document is expected to detail the new administration’s priorities, including welfare schemes, development projects and sectoral allocations for education, health, employment, infrastructure, urban development and agriculture. The agriculture budget may feature increased investment in irrigation, farm infrastructure and productivity enhancements. The cabinet also discussed proposals for new industrial investment projects intended to boost manufacturing, create jobs and attract fresh capital. After cabinet approval, the finance department will complete the necessary formalities before the budget is formally introduced in the assembly.
