Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay cleared to visit Karur after Supreme Court rejects DMK plea

The Supreme Court dismissed a petition filed by the DMK that sought to limit statements and a scheduled visit by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to Karur, where victims of the September 2025 stampede are to receive assistance. The bench questioned the court’s role in political disputes and noted that the CBI investigation into the stampede is already overseen by a supervisory committee, with the chief minister not named in any FIR.

Following the court’s decision, Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar criticized the DMK, alleging the party fears the chief minister’s visit and has repeatedly shifted to the CBI for investigations. He called the DMK’s legal team incompetent and warned that the party’s attempts to block the visit have failed.
