Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay meets India's Prime Minister and Finance Minister in Delhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay travelled to New Delhi for the first time since taking office and held a brief 20‑minute meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussion covered the return of ancient copper plates from the Netherlands, the Mekedatu dam project on the Cauvery river and other sensitive issues affecting Tamil Nadu.

Later in the day the chief minister met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Ministry of Finance. Vijay sought central funding for major infrastructure initiatives, including ports, highways, rail links, an industrial corridor and metro projects in Hosur, Coimbatore and Madurai. He also asked for the establishment of an Institute of National Importance, and raised proposals for defence‑related research centres such as an Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft design hub and a Centre for Air‑Born Systems in the state. The chief minister pressed the government to withhold approval of the Mekedatu dam without the consent of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, citing concerns of farmers in the affected lower‑lying areas.
