Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay to visit Karur on July 10 amid stampede probe
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is scheduled to travel to Karur on July 10 for a public outreach programme that will include a "Makkal Sandhippu" event and a likely meeting with families of the victims of the September 2025 stampede that killed 41 people.
The DMK has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order to prevent Vijay and other ministers from making public statements about the stampede while a CBI inquiry is underway. The apex court has listed the plea for a hearing tomorrow.
The visit occurs against a backdrop of heightened political tension between the ruling TVK government and the opposition DMK, including the recent police summons of DMK leader V. Senthil Balaji and accusations of a political vendetta.
